'I received the first ultrasound scan results from Mr. Ashley and it appeared that I would most probably need a secondary treatment as my varicose veins were quite complex. Mr. Ashley promised me to do his utmost to obtain the very best results in one treatment, as I was scheduled to return to my home in Maui soon afterwards.

 

Mr. Ashley treated the long saphenous and anterior thigh veins in my left leg using ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy. The procedure was absolutely painless and over very quickly. I was amazed at how easy the process had been. After receiving my stocking I was asked to take a brisk walk for twenty minutes, after which I received coffee and biscuits from a lovely nurse before being released. 

 

I wore the compression stocking as instructed by Penny, Mr. Ashley's secretary, for five complete days and nights. I decided to take Arnica D30 an hour before the procedure and every two hours for the first few days to avoid unnecessary bruising. Gradually reducing the dosage to three times daily two tablets.

 

When I removed the stocking there were two small areas where the injections had been made that were slightly bruised. To my utter delight the veins had completely disappeared, I could not see or feel anything, it was incredible and I was extremely happy with the results, it had all been so painless and easy!

 

Fifteen days later I saw Mr. Ashley again, just in case I did need a second treatment but to his and my delight it was not necessary. His skill and expertise in treating varicose veins had worked extremely well. He checked everything with the ultrasound to make quite sure and was extremely pleased with the results. There was after two weeks no sign of any bruising whatsoever just one small area that was still slightly discolored but I was told would soon disappear.

 

I can honestly and very happily recommend Mr. Ashley to anyone wishing to have their veins treated. He is definitely an expert in this field. I would also like to mention and thank lovely Penny, and all the team at the Nuffield, they were extremely helpful, kind and accommodating in every way. I am very happy my GP referred me to Mr. Simon Ashley at the Nuffield hospital.

‘I just have to share this news of this amazing procedure with everyone who suffers with the dreaded varicose veins. Over the years I have had the vintage procedure for varicose veins, and subsequently kept putting off having anything more done. The pain, itching and a threatening ulcer accelerated my decision to be referred to Mr Ashley.

He told me all about sclerotherapy, and that it would help my legs. I had a scan, then consultation and was told exactly what would occur.

 

I reported to the Nuffield Hospital at 9.30 in the morning, had pre-tests, BP etc. then was taken into a treatment clinic where there were three delightful nurses all very chatty and kept it all normal, and of course Mr Ashley.

Within 30 minutes I was walking out of the clinic and have honestly suffered more pain at the dentist! I had to walk for 15 minutes around the grounds of hospital and that was it. Back to work after 2 days. Wonderful! My leg feels it has power again!

‘After putting up with a varicose vein in one of my legs for 25 years I took the plunge and arranged to have the vein out by Simon Ashley MS FRCS at the Nuffield Health Hospital Plymouth.

 

The procedure took place in around 5 minutes and was performed under local anaesthetic whilst I was reading a newspaper! There was no pain and no after effects and I could walk around straight away. 18 months later, no marks and no varicose vein, a great success!

 

If only the foam injection procedure which kills the vein was around many years earlier. Without hesitation I would recommend this procedure, there's nothing to it.’
